About Me
My name is Christopher Dull, and I was born and raised in the Midwest. I first came to Indiana to attend Culver Military Academy for four formative years. Afterwards, I graduated from the University of Michigan and spent a year abroad in Spain. I graduated from IU Law School - Indianapolis and practiced law for 2 years.
After two years as a lawyer, I at last decided what I wanted to do with my life -- marry my wife, start taking care of patients, and begin our family. In 1998, my wife and I moved to Nashville, TN, and she supported us while I attended Medical School at Vanderbilt. In medical school, I fell in love with a number of different specialties -- Pediatrics, OB/GYN, and Surgery -- but nothing brought me as much
satisfaction as treating patients who sought help for distressful conditions that affected their behaviors, perceptions, thinking, and/or feelings. I elected to specialize in Psychiatry. The decision as to where to train came down to a family vote. We decided to accept a very generous offer from Johns Hopkins Hospital to train there. We have never looked back.
I credit Vanderbilt and Johns Hopkins with instilling in me the passion to practice Psychiatry and providing me the tools to do so. I credit my wonderful patients for teaching me how to be a doctor.
This education has helped me develop my practice values and principles. I believe that the right way to practice medicine is to treat each patient as I would my family. I believe a physician and patient form a team, and we work together to understand what is affecting the patient's well being, decide upon medical diagnoses as appropriate, and then create a strategy to better understand, master, and control the problems causing the distress. Not only do we want to treat the immediate issues, but we want to provide life long tools to prevent their recurrence. I want my patients to live their lives to the fullest without interference from the burden of psychiatric impairments.
Although I have been trained to and have treated many patients in all areas of mental health, I am particularly focused on the following areas of psychiatric medicine (in no particular order):
1. Addictions -- including treatment with buprenorphine (Suboxone) and psychiatric support.
2. Dementia.
3. Major Depressive Disorder.
4. Bipolar Disorder.
5. Anxiety Disorders.
6. Diagnostic consultations.
